In January of 1988, Jim Bowers and his family opened Bowers Funeral Home with a compassionate desire to assist families in Meigs County and the surrounding areas by helping them through the most difficult time in their lives, the loss of a loved one. Jim and Barbara had a passion for helping people through these difficult times. They built not only an outstanding staff but also a confidence in the people they served. The community knew that Bowers Funeral Home was there to be both a funeral home and a friend.

Over the span of three decades, they served many families. Jim lost his high school love, Barbara, during that time. While she is greatly missed, the passion that she shared with her husband to care for grieving families was carried on at Bowers Funeral Home.

Jim Bowers retired in August of 2020 and turned over the operations of the funeral home to the new owner and manager, James A. Staton, and his family. They hope to continue to serve the families of Meigs County and surrounding areas. They provide compassionate service to every family who walks through the doors of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services for many years to come.
