Robin Dalphine Varnell

Robin Dalphine Varnell, age 63, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, January 2, 2025, surrounded by her family.

She was a lifelong resident of Decatur, TN, where she touched many lives with her kindness and compassionate nature. She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to laugh and be with family and friends. Robin was an excellent cook and loved preparing great food for her family and friends.

Robin had a gift for serving others and was a skilled nurse for over 35 years. She began her nursing career as an ER Nurse at Athens Regional Hospital and later at Sweetwater Hospital Association and Decatur Nursing Home. She was a mentor nurse and shared her years of knowledge and wisdom with new nurses that crossed her path. She finished her career doing private Home Health Nursing before retiring. She served all patients with dignity, respect and compassion.

She was a lifelong member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, TN where she was saved and baptized as a young girl.She was church pianist for several years.

She is preceded in death: by her father Lawrence Bennett Varnell; her son Steven Cody Newman; her brother Steven Everette Varnell; her nephew Ryan Bradley.

She is survived in death: by her mother Ivadell Heck Varnell; her daughter Haley (Derick) Newman Brown; sister Janet (Rodney) Bradley of Tellico; sister Shelia (David) Mann of Knoxville. Two Grandchildren: Isaac Parker and Lily Hurst. Nieces Jessica (Kevin) Ervin; Lauren (Stefan) McClellan; Tara (Dallas) Givens; English Mann; Nephew Benjamin Mann, and many extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Decatur Wellness Center and her caregivers.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, in the chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Rev. Joseph Reed officiating.

Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, in the Decatur Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m., prior to the service on Tuesday.
