William Ross Broadway

William “Ross” Broadway, age 93, of Ten Mile, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. Ross was born to the late Charles “Hubert” and Ruby Broadway in Chattanooga, Tennessee on December 5, 1929. He graduated from Central High School and went on to serve our country in the U.S. Navy from September 20, 1948 to May 20, 1953. Upon returning from the Navy, he went to work for Dupont Nylon Plant in Chattanooga where he met the love of his life Elberta Trew. They were married on August 17, 1956 in Chattanooga. In 1959, Ross and Elberta moved and made their home in Ten Mile to run Sam’s Boat Dock, where together they created countless memories for family and friends near and far for multiple generations. As life progressed, Ross made his career as the local Postmaster from 1962 to 1989 until his retirement upon which they enjoyed traveling to numerous postal conventions throughout the U.S.; He loved the outdoors and everything nature, spending his free time hunting, fishing and hiking. He and Elberta made several scenic trips through the Pacific Northwest and up into Alaska. He was admired, respected and loved by everyone that knew him and he will be dearly missed by all. He is preceded by his parents; brother: Paul Broadway; sisters: Hilda Wallace and Sue Williams. He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Elberta; sisters: Jean Franks and Joy Brown; sister-in-law: Hazel Broadway; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Rev. Mike Couch officiating. Interment will follow in the Meigs County Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 12 p.m. – 2 p.m., prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to stjude.org in memory of Ross, which he and Elberta were passionate supporters of.
