Vance Ray Hughes

Vance "Ray" Hughes, 78, of Decatur, died Tuesday Jan. 6, 2015. Ray was of the Baptist faith and attended Morning View Baptist Church. He served our country in the US Marine Corps and worked for many years as an electrician for TVA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oshell and Annie Bell Hughes, of Dalton, Ga.; brothers J.R. and Harold Hughes, of Athens; grandson Joseph Ridyard, of Berwyn, IL. He is survived by his wife Martha Ann "Tink" Hughes, of Decatur; sons Vance Hughes and his wife Terri, Dennis Hughes, Kenny Hughes and his wife Samantha, all of Decatur; daughters Vicki Self, of Athens and Debbie Hughes, of Decatur; brother Robert Hughes and his wife Ann, of Joliet, IL; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special nephew Steve Hughes. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2 pm at Morning View Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Rolen and Pastor Jimmy Garrett officiating. The family received friends at the Bowers funeral home 6 till 8 pm, Friday. Interment will be in Clearwater Cemetery in Athens following the funeral Saturday. Pallbearers: Jeremy Hogan, Jason Hughes, Lee Tate, Steve Hughes, Mike Green Sr., Mike Green Jr.; honorary pallbearers: Vance Hughes, Kenny Hughes, Charles McPeak.
