Steven Douglas Sweet

Steven Douglas Sweet, born July 22, 1929, age 85 , died Sunday, August 17, 2014. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a resident of Sweetwater most of his life, and lived in Ten Mile, TN for the last 29 years. Steve worked as a farmer all his life and raised three kids. He will forever live in the hearts of those who love him. He was the son of the late Edd and Della Sweet. He is also preceded in death by brothers C.L, Marion, Clifford, James and Oscar Lee Sweet; son-in-law Ross Lankford. He is survived by his son Larry Sweet and girlfriend Sheila Powers; daughters, Sheila Lankford and Betty Goforth and her husband Jack; grandchildren Sue Lankford Gregory and husband Terry, Crystal Lankford Linebarger and husband Jon, all of Ten Mile, Jeremy Lankford, of Decatur; great grand children Angel Richesin, Alyssa Linebarger, LaTosha Gregory, Austin Gregory, Diamond Lankford; brothers and sisters, Melvin Sweet and wife Ethel Mae, Sarah Sweet McLemore and husband Gene, Betty Sweet Ledford and husband Doug, Mary Lee Sweet Miller and husband James, Martha Lou Sweet McNabb and husband Kenneth; several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Jon Linebarger, Terry Gregory, Jackie Goforth, Neil McNabb, Allen Daniels, Jeremy Lankford; honorary pallbearer Larry Sweet. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 pm on Tuesday. The funeral service will be at 7 pm with the Rev. Mike McNabe officiating. Interment will be 11 am Wednesday at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors on B wing at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens.
