Samuel “Sam” Edward Breeden, 73, of Decatur, TN, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2021. Sam loved his country and Meigs County and Decatur, TN and served in US Army 68-70. He was past Meigs County Commissioner from 82-86. One of the Founding members and First Post Commander of the local VFW Post 7189 for 86-88 were he also served as VFW District 3 Sr. Vice Commander for 91-92. Over the course of his life all he wanted to be was a Farmer, but he worked short periods of time for Dillard Smith Construction, as an Athens Police Office and a Fuel Truck Hauler and he was a certified Crop Adjustor for over 20 years. His favorite color was red, so he had many Massey Ferguson Tractors and his cattle had to be red cattle! He was the happiest in his life when he was working with his family on the Farm. He graduated from Meigs County Consolidated High School Class of 1966. During his high school years, he was a very active Future Farmer of America (FFA) member and he loved showing his prize Hogs. Past time was fox hound hunting and later in life hunting rabbit and squirrels on the farm with his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents: William E. and Idella (Miller) Breeden, son: Edward “Lane” Breeden, brother: William G. Breeden. He is survived by wife of 53 years: Janette Jones Breeden of Decatur, TN: two twin daughters: Lorella Breeden (James) Jennings of Grimsley, TN, Hester Morrell Breeden of Athens, TN, granddaughter: Jessica (Connor) Blackman of Cookeville, TN, two grandsons: James Samuel Jennings of Decatur, TN, Jackson Cole Jennings of Grimsley, TN, sister-n-law: Clare Nell Breeden of Decatur, TN, two nephews: Billy Breeden of Decatur, TN, Thomas (Angela) Breeden of Virginia, three great nephews: Jacob, Elijah, and Titus Breeden and one great niece Anna Breeden all of Virginia, cousins: Steve Miller of Decatur, TN, Joyce Woods of Decatur, TN, Marcia Knox of Nashville, TN., several nieces, nephews, and other extended family. A Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2021 in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Rev. Rodney Dunn officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5-7 on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
