Raymond Hixon Jennings passed away on December 28, 2016 at his home surrounded by family and friends.
Raymond was a lifelong resident of Decatur, Tennessee and a member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur. He was a member of the IBEW Local 175, Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Raymond was born on June 21, 1943 to parents Perry and Edna (Varnell) Jennings. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles A. Jennings, daughter Karen Jennings Combs and grandson Seth E. Combs.
He was a 1961 graduate of Meigs County High School where he was active in sports. He continued to support the Tigers for many years through his children and grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to support his grandchildren in all ventures from ballgames to musicals and everything in between. He enjoyed being active at home in the garage, outdoors, and fishing in his pond with friends and family.
He is survived by his 'precious' wife of 52 years, Sue Brown Jennings, son and daughter-in-law Greg and Sondra Jennings of Ooltewah, daughter and son-in-law Joy and Drew Gilliland of Cleveland, son-in-law Jerry Combs of Decatur. Grandchildren Courtney and Natalee Combs, and Claire, Ben, and Mia Gilliland. Brother and Sister in-law Jimmy and Kathryn Everett, Brother and Sister-in-law Edward and Helen Jennings. Sister-in-law Audra Jennings, and Sister Phyllis Jennings Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the First Baptist Church of Decatur with the Rev. Kenneth Gardner and the Rev. Jamey Davis officiating. Internment will follow in the Cottonport Baptist Church Cemetery with Maynard Shelton, Mike Brown, Aaron Jennings, Scott Leamon, Vince Brown and Jackie Melton serving as active pallbearers. Ralph Jones, Ken Jones, Justin Jennings, Billy Ray Redmon, and Alvin Tallent will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 30, 2016 from 5 - 8 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Relay for Life Meigs County or the Decatur First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 35, Decatur, TN 37322.
