Phyllis Gail Brown Farmer, age 71, of Decatur, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023.
She was a daughter of the late Malcolm and Amanda Rockholt Brown. She was a member of Decatur First Baptist Church and sang with the Joyfulettes for 51 years. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 159, Athens.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Phillip “Phil” C. Farmer, grandson: Cole Puryear.
She is survived by her children: Grant (Cayci) Farmer of Riceville, Monica (Jon) Steele of Soddy Daisy; grandchildren: Cade Puryear, Abby Steele, Bray Farmer; siblings: Emma Jennings, Sue Jennings, Doug Brown, Bill Brown; several nieces, nephews, other extended family, and a host of friends.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 7 p.m. at the Decatur First Baptist Church with Rev. Cullen Conner officiating.
Interment will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the Short Creek Cemetery with Pastor Jordan Metzger officiating. Tim Jennings, Greg Jennings, Jackie Melton, Jimmy Lawson, Duke Goins, and Carey Thompson will serve as pallbearers. Otto Bohanan, Mike Brown, Drew Gilliland, Dylan Neely, and Brent Maddron will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the church, prior to the service.
