Paul Edward Monroe, 87, of Decatur went home to be with the Lord Monday Sept. 12, 2016 at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens.
He was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church. He served his Country in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and was a member of IBEW local 175. He retired as a grounds man at Dillard Smith Construction and was a farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Frances D. (Davis) Monroe; Parents, Lewis and Eva (Gregory) Monroe; Father and mother-in law, Herman and Oma Davis; sisters, Lena Belle (Monroe) Davis, Katie N. (Monroe) Duckett, Mary Carolyn (Monroe) Kitts; brother, Ross Dean Monroe.
He is survived by one son, Michael "Mike" Monroe, of Decatur; one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Terry Oliver, of Decatur; grandchildren, G. Adam and Kristi Roberts, C.J. and Colby Oliver, Jeremy Monroe, all of Decatur; great grandchildren, Chloe Grace (Sally) Oliver and Kashlynn Rey Roberts; several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016 at The Bowers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Rymer and Rev. Jamie Davis officiating.
Family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-8 pm at the Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Donnie Davis, Dustin Davis, Randall Petitt, Mark Wilson, Mike Monroe, Timmy Keaton.
