Patricia Lucille Smith Mendez

Patricia Mendez passed away on the evening of May 1st 2021 at the age of 66, due to respiratory issues. Patricia was born on February 9th in Knoxville, TN to Ernest Oray Smith and Bertha Minerva Black. Patricia was a graduate of Pomona, California Adult School, and also graduated from Mount San Antonio College with honors. She was a recipient of Who’s America Junior College. She worked at Pomona Valley hospital as an RN until health issues made her retire. While at Pomona Valley She was chairman of nurse education and then moved to Kingston, TN, where she became an ordained minister for Church of God of Cleveland. She was pastor of Gateway Church of God in Rockwood, TN. She was loved by many nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her brother: Daniel Nicholson Smith. Survivors include her husband: Richard, siblings: Linda Denise Massengill (Steve), Melissa Willa Jane Talent, Heather Michelle Wallace (Greg) and David Talent Jr (Judy and son: Joshua), Patricia raised Jessica Flynn (Kevin) who has a daughter Alexis, Step mother: Patsy Smith who was a second wife to the father Ernest. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2021 in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Ottis Ball officiating. Interment will follow in the Swan Pond Baptist Church Cemetery in Kingston. The family will receive friends from 12-2 prior to the service.
