Nancy Lynn Chapman

d. July 10, 2015

Nancy Lynn Proffitt Chapmen passed away Friday, July 10, 2015. She was Born July 1, 1934, to the late Victor and Allene Proffitt of Decatur Tennessee. Nancy was a devoted wife to George Mack Chapman and a loving mother of Harry Michael Chapman and Vickie Lynn Chapman Rodgers. She has three beautiful grandchildren, Kimberly, Matthew and Brad Rodgers, o9f Alpharetta, GA . She is survived by her brother Ned and wife Joyce Proffitt and her sister Margaret Proffitt Nye. She has four deceased brothers, Phillip Proffitt, Joe Proffitt, Earl Proffitt and Jim Proffitt. Lynn grew up on a farm in Decatur into a large family and had very fond memories and colorful stories. The farm always held a special place in her heart. She got married and moved to Chattanooga to start her family with her husband Mack. Together they gave bible studies and worked to build the Decatur Seventh Day Adventist Church in Decatur. She and her family made the trip to Decatur every Saturday for more than 30 years. She was very committed to the Lord, she and her husband sacrificed so that their children could attend private Church schools. Lynn loved the beach and to travel. Her best travel memory was to the Cayman Islands where she snorkeled, swam with the sting rays, watches the baby turtles try to make it back to the Ocean and getting her pictures taken with the Pirates. She also enjoyed the Bahamas and Lake Tahoe. As her health started failing, she would often take out the book and look at all the pictures to relive the trips. Gardening was another passion for Lynn and she is probably the first person in history to drag a banana tree down a hill with her walker to replant it without asking for help. That showed both her love for gardening and her determination when she wanted something done. I think both of these may be genetic attributes if you know the Proffitt family. Her biggest joy of all was her grand kids and she lit up every time she saw them. The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m., in the Bowers Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Dewight Hilderbrant officiating. Interment will be in the Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home
