Mongin McTyire Smyly, 81, entered into eternal rest Sunday, October 2, 2022, in Knoxville, TN. He was the husband to Mrs. Carlene Joyce Smith Smyly. He was born December 15, 1940 in Ruffin, SC, and was the son of the late Lee Winston Smyly and Lula Carroll Smyly. Mongin was a jack of all trades and master of them all. He retired from being a Millwright in the construction industry, working with many national construction companies throughout the United States. His last job was at Lowe’s in Dayton, TN where he enjoyed sharing his knowledge on everything. He loved to tinker with woodworking and made many things and he loved to garden, which he had a green thumb, which he would argue against. He was preceded in death by his siblings, sister: Carroll R. Smyly Bennett Godwin, and brothers: Winston G. Smyly Bennett, G. Vance Smyly. In addition to his wife Carlene, he is survived by his children, daughters: Tina S. (Conrad) Smith, Greenpond, SC, Joy S. (Brian) Preveaux, Mullins, SC, and son: Shane B. Smyly, Round O, SC., his grandchildren: C. Joseph Smith, III, Greenpond, SC, Sherrie L. Smyly, Jacksonville, FL, Erin C. Preveaux, Cottageville, SC and Matthew C. Preveaux, Sarasota, FL., Great Grandchildren: Whitne Vogt and Brantley Vogt, Jacksonville, FL., A niece: Gina G. (Bob) Reardon, Tega Cay, SC, whom he considered as a bonus daughter and several nieces and nephews, Stepchildren, which he also considered his bonus son and daughter: Michelle E. Lucas, Brian Nichols, Stepchildren grandchildren: Britanny Nichols, Alyssa Nichols, and Step Great Grandchildren: Brooklynn Skye Nichols. Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Rev. Jordan Metzger officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m., prior to the service. Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services is honored to serve the Smyly Family.
