Mary Reed Shoemaker

Mrs. Mary Reed Shoemaker, age 86, of Decatur, TN went home to be with the Lord Thursday morning, February 18, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Hattie Allen Reed. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gordon Shoemaker on January 24, 1968. Four brothers, T.J., Claude "Monk", James "Son", and Conis Reed; and four sisters, Hazel Wattenbarger, Imogene Walden, Nell Edgemon, and Wanda Rinehart. Born in Meigs County, she was a resident of Roane County before moving back to Meigs County in 1970. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Decatur where she was a teacher for the Ladies Adult III Sunday School Class. She was a longtime member of the Eastern Star. She was the manager of Duncan's Department Store in Decatur. She recently retired from working part-time for the Meigs County Clerk and Master. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, John and Susan Shoemaker of Middleton, TN, Jerry Shoemaker of Decatur, TN; one daughter and son-in-law, Chevi and Steve Bearden of Decatur, TN; four granddaughters, Heather and husband Bruce Newman of Harrison, TN, Trudi and husband Jeremy Brack of Cleveland, TN, and Natalie and Laura Bearden of Decatur; four great-grandchildren, Karly and Garrett Newman of Harrison, Caroline and Taylor Brack of Cleveland, TN; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Peggy and Edwain Sliger of Atrhens, and Frankie Nix of Smith, AL; and several nieces and nephews as well as special friends and neighbors. Pallbearers will be Jim Mercer, Tim Proffitt, Tim Jemnings, Jimmy Lawson, Bobby Reed, and Bruce Newman and Jeremy Beck. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Reed, Larry Reed, David Edgemon, Doug Edgemon and Bill Wattenbarger. Funeral services are 7:00 p.m. Saturday February 20, 2010 in the Bowers Funeral Home with Rev. Craig Dale officiating. The family will recieve friends from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Ten Mile Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 21, 2010.
