Laura Lee Petitt Scott, age 96, of Decatur, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at her residence. She was born on September 11, 1926, to the late Floyd and Maggie Sneed Petitt. She was a member of Goodfield United Methodist Church. Known as a wonderful cook, famous for her chess pies and contagious laughter, she made sure her family and friends were well-fed. Laura was an avid gardener, canner, and seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husband: Ernest D. Scott, siblings: Dorothy Jennings, Junior Petitt, Crissie Bennett, Linda Martin, W.T. Petitt, Parma Messer, Eva Sue Petitt, infant grandchild: Jason Scott, great-grandchildren: Allie and Chase Scott, son-in-law: Terry Irvin. She is survived by her children: Robert Scott, Janet Irvin, Wayne Scott (Carolyn), Larry Scott, Ginger Harris (Jerry), Beth Miller (Eddy), sister: Wanda Bell, 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and other extended family. The family would like to extend special thanks to caregivers: Kellie Seal and Paige Letner. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor David Moore officiating. Interment will be held in the Goodfield Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2023. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the service.
