Kenneth Stephen Van Herpen, age 66, of Decatur, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024.
Ken was born on July 1, 1957 in Munich, Germany. As a son of a military family, he attended school in multiple states, graduating in 1975 from Douglas Byrd High School in Fayetteville, NC. He joined the Air Force in January 1976 and retired as a Master Sergeant in August 1998. During his service, he attended HPU (Hawaii Pacific University) and earned a Bachelor’s degree in accounting. After retiring from the Air Force with 22 years and 7 months of service, he continued his specialty field in Accounting and began his 2nd career working in Civil Service throughout multiple organizations, beginning with the Bureau of Land Management and ending his career in 2019, working with the Department of Interior in Fish and Wild Life.
Ken married his high school sweetheart, Pam, in 1978 and have been married for 46 years.
He is preceded in death by his father, Renee Van Herpen, mother, Elizabeth Granda Van Herpen, brother, Michael Van Herpen, granddaughter, Jasmine Elizabeth, grandson, Nathan Alexander.
He is survived by his wife, Pam of Decatur, TN, three children, Stephen Gregory of Elkhorn, NE, Stacey Lynnel of Savannah, GA, and Samantha Jeanne of Denver, CO, four grandchildren, Kaylynne Serenity, Soryn Grace, Kenton Mark, Sloane Pearl of Elkhorn NE, sister, Lorraine Barnett, of Spring Hill, TN, Karen Cannaday and brother-in-law John Cannaday of Irving, TX., brother, Keith Van Herpen, along with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins .
A Funeral Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Decatur with Pastor Jordan Metzger officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3 – 4 p.m., prior to the service.
