Kenneth David Shelton "Pop" January 1, 2010 Charleston, South Carolina Our father has taken his son into his arms and has taken him home. Parents: David Andrew Shelton and Daisy Marie O'Daniel Shelton Thomas Loving Wife: Tilda Jane Womac Shelton Kenneth David Shelton "Pop" 73 was born in Riceville, Tennessee August 19, 1936 His family lived in Polk County and McMinn County for many years. His father David Andrew Shelton was a farmer, his mother a housewife. He had lost his father in 1949, he was only 12. When he would speak of his father he would say he would be with him one day. That day came on January 1, 2010 due to a sudden illness. Now he will walk hand in hand with his father and mother. He met his wife in Meigs County Tennessee when he was a young boy. He and his dad would visit James H. and Elsie Womac who in later years became his In-Laws. He married Tilda (Jane) Womac Shelton in Ringgold, Catoosa County, Georgia on December 1, 1956. They celebrated 53 years together December 1, 2009. Together they raised their two children son Pete & daughter Marie. He took great pride in his family, trying to keep them all together with him in his later years. He wanted a family reunion in 2000 and he got his wish. He got to see his cousins Walter Shelton, Loren Hunter and Donald Dixon who he hadn't seen in over 55 years. In June 2009 we had another Reunion and you could see him smile from coast to coast. He would say there is nothing more important than having your family with you. He served his Country for over 24 years in the U.S. Army as a Line Cook and retired May 31, 1974. He was in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was presented with a Purple Heart while in Vietnam and many more awards for his cooking. His received his GED while in the service. By the time he retired he had traveled the world and seen things that were great and some not so great. He learned almost everything possible for one man from fixing cars to fixing up the home. He loved his Peacock Bruce and his pig Meme. He had raised them both from birth. He loved doing crossword puzzles, playing pool, cribbage and spending time with his grandchildren. The last 17 years he and his son James (Pete) Evans built the PT'S Transmission Parts stores in North Charleston and Moncks Corner South Carolina. He will join his parents David A. & Daisy M. Shelton, Step-father Ernie Thomas, Brothers Bud Thomas and Larry G. Thomas, Sister Mary Jo Gibson, In-Laws James H. and Elsie Womac, Brother In-Laws: Ransom A. Womac, (Tom) Tommy Womac and Troy L. Womac, Sister In-Law: Lorene Womac Thomas Niece: Evelyn Jean Thomas Wood and Great Nephew: (Tater) Richard Richeson, Cousin: Donald Dixon and Mary Jane Oliver. He leaves behind his loving wife Tilda (Jane) Shelton of 53 years, son James (Pete) & Renee Evans of Goose Creek S.C., daughter Anna (Marie) & Robert Johnson of Ridgeville, S.C. His Grandchildren: Rose Tieman, Casey & Kathleen Johnson, Charlotte & Rob Lynch, Kenneth Shelton, James Evans, Johnny Johnson and Jessie Evans. Great Grandchildren: Jessica Johnson, Emily Johnson, Mike Johnson, Abby Lynch, (Tilly) Tilda Barnum and (Allien Jr.) Isabell Lynch. Sisters Wanda Breedlove of Cleveland Tn., Ruth Wade of Riceville Tn.,Barbara & Ken Ledford of Dalton Ga. brother Carroll Shelton of Cleveland, Tn. In-Laws Mary Ruth Womac of Niota Tn., Fred & Sue Womac of Ten Mile Tn., Chelene Womac of Lenoir City, Tn., Evelee Womac of Niota Tn, Ernest & Cindy of Montrose Mich., Allien & Jim Perry of Monticello Ga., Gordon Womac of Montrose Mich. Nieces and Nephews Barbra E. & Terry Cavaner, Judy & Ronald Hurd, Edith Ritchie, Mary Jane & Kenneth Moore, Sheila & Jack Leverette, Ida Chouniard, Roberta Middlebrooks, Sandra & Chris Evans, Sherry Underwood, Cathy & Ray Yearwood, Martha L. Services will be held Bowers Funeral Home 163 Arrants Road Decatur, Tennessee Friday January 8th, 2010 Viewing from 5:00 P.M. - 7:00pm Services from 7:00pm 8:00pm Burial will take place Saturday January 9, 2010 at 11:00am Mountain view Memorial Gardens 20054 State Highway 58 Decatur, Tennessee Flowers may be sent to Bowers Funeral Home
