Joseph Ellsworth Neild, Sr. of Athens, Tennessee, previously of Decatur, TN, San Marcos, CA, Pine Hill and Gloucester City NJ, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2022. Joe was born in Gloucester City, NJ in September 1924, of the fourth generation of Neild Family in that City. Great great grandparents: Mary Leek of Bass River NJ and Francis Neild of Philadelphia. Joe was a WWII veteran, serving in both the Army and the Navy. His boat was stalled in the Atlantic and a couple of days late for that first landing in France on D-day and the carnage that followed. Joe returned to Gloucester City after the war and married Fern Eager. They had twins, Joseph Jr. and Donna, and then moved to Pine Hill. Joe worked and retired from Owens Fiberglass. After his wife, Fern, passed and he retired, he remarried and moved to California with his wife, Martha Houston. After Martha passed, he spent his remaining years in Tennessee with his daughter and grandchildren. Joe was a world traveler, a stained glass artist, and a friend and devoted member of the Amvets. He loved fishing, boating, and dancing. He lived a long, wonderful, and charmed life. He will be missed by all, especially his son: Joseph (Elaine), daughter: Donna Robertson, grandchildren: Lawrence (Adrian), Fern (Rob), Gail (Dan) and Neil (Heather), great-grandchildren: Dawson, Alyssa, Aidan, Robbie, Jessica, Carley, Cheyenne, Hunter, and Joey.
