John Stokes

John R. Stokes, 69, of Decatur, died on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 at Life Care of Collegedale. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Nina (Campbell) Stokes; 2 sisters, Louise "Midge" Hill, Shirley Hale; nephew Jeff Stokes. Survivors include his ex-wife Phyllis Stokes of Chattanooga; one son, John Michael Stokes of Jacksonville, FL; 2 daughters and one son-in-law, Teresa Stokes, Joy and Jamey McKenzie, all of Decatur; one brother and sister-in-law Dean and Maxine Stokes of Decatur; 4 sisters and 3 brother-in-laws, Virginia Johnson of Jonesboro, GA, Lou and Jesse York of Morristown, TN, Sammie and Joe Womac of Riceville, TN, Donna and David Sneed of Decatur; 3 grandchildren, Corey Stokes, Nina Stokes, Breanna Stokes. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 in the Bowers Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jamey Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Decatur Cemetery. Pallbearers: Travis Sneed, Bobby Stokes, Kenny Fairbanks, Stanley Welch, Jerry Shoemaker, David Bates, Ricky Bates, Kalvin Hale.
