Jim "Bear" Wendel Spongross

James Spongross "Bear", 70, of Decatur passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Panama City, FL and had been a resident of Decatur since 1989 coming from Chattanooga. He was a maintenance man for Aztec Industries for many years. He was a hard working man and he enjoyed camping.

Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Carol Spongross of Decatur; his children, John Bartes of Soddy Daisy, James Spongross, Jr of Jasper, Bonnie Spongross McPherson of Birchwood, and Karen Spongross of Charleston; two brothers, Victor Spongross of California and Ted Spongross of Florida; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and four great- great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at Bowers Funeral Home from 5PM to 7PM Friday, October 5, 2018. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 12PM at the funeral home with Rev. Max Redman officiating.. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Mtn View Memorial Gardens.
