James Larry Reed, age 72, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022. Larry was born on August 26, 1950, to the late TJ and Ruby Bottoms Reed. He was a member of Meigs Masonic Lodge #213 for nearly 50 years. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Decatur where he had a special bond and friendship with fellow lifelong friends in his adult Sunday school class. He was most happy when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren and spent the last 3 years selflessly caring for his wife. He was employed at VEC for 45 years where he retired as area superintendent, and was a bus driver for the Meigs athletics/schools. He had a great love for sports and a passion for watching his grandchildren participate in all sports. He also loved hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was preceded in death by his brother: Dennis Reed. He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Barbara Lewis Reed, children: Jamie Bredwell (Micheal), Wendi Powell (Jason), grandchildren: Morgan Jarvis (Cory), Taylor and Macie Boggess, Jaci and Nate Powell, Hannah and Aubey Bredwell, brother: Bobby Reed (Joyce), and a host of extended family and close friends. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Rev. Jordan Metzger officiating. Interment will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at 11 a.m. in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Don Brown, Jimmy Lawson, Donny Eaton, Kenneth Hale, Jackie Melton, and Scott Barker. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., prior to the service on Wednesday.
