James Dewey "JJ" Jones, of Decatur, died at his home, surrounded by his family, on May 17, 2013. He was born in Graham, OK and moved to Decatur in 1974 where he managed the Decatur Plastics plant until 1997. He served the community for many years as an Alderman for the town of Decatur and as a District Governor for the Lions Clubs District 12-O. Throughout the years, he coached the youth of Decatur in many different sports and worked with different area sporting associations, including 20 years of service as a National Director from Tennessee for Dizzy Dean Baseball. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard J. and Mary Vivian Jones; his brother, Jerry Max Jones; and his daughter, Linda Graham. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth Jones of Decatur; two sons, Robert Jones and wife Bridget of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Daniel Jones and wife Heather of Chattanooga, TN; two brothers, Billy Jones and wife Marilyn of Prairieville, LA and David Jones and wife Naomi of Opelousas, LA; sister-in-law, Jean Evans of Gulf Breeze, FL; five granddaughters, Jennifer Mason and Tanya Purdy of Seattle, WA, Brianna, Mary Elizabeth, and Vivian Jones of Fuquay-Varina, NC; two great granddaughters Gwenie and Evie Purdy and great grandson Owen Mason of Seattle, WA; nieces Marilyn Jones of Gulf Breeze, FL, Gwendolyn Sanders of Lafayette, LA, Bridget Thomas of Baton Rouge, LA, and nephew, Larry Jones of Prairieville, LA. His family has requested that visitation be observed on Saturday, May 25, 2013 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Decatur, TN. A private memorial for family will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Lions Club International or your local sports organization.
