James Allen “Jim” Bowers, Sr., age 80, a native of West Virginia and resident of Decatur for 34 years, passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022. Jim was the son of the late Harold and Lillian Taylor Bowers. He was a member of McMahan Calvary Baptist Church in Athens. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired from Norfolk Southern Railway. Jim owned and operated Bowers Funeral Home for over 30 years. He was preceded in death by his wife: Barbara Ann Runyon Bowers, son: Scott David Bowers and a daughter-in-law: Rhonda Bowers. He is survived by his wife: Jane Lillard Bowers, son: James Allen Bowers, Jr., stepson: Mark (Karen) Lillard, grandchildren: Casie (Jacob) Bowers-Cantrell, Braden Bowers, Rachel (Robert) Cole, Danisha Lillard, Serenity Lillard, Elijah Lillard, four great grandchildren, sister: Linda (Tom) Runyon, special friends: Virginia and Mike Godsey Robinson, John and Susie Whalen. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 2, 2023, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Rev. Gary Rolen officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m., prior to the service. Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services is honored to serve the Bowers Family.
