Iva Lou Shields

July 12, 1934 — May 10, 2019


Iva Lou Shields, 84, of Decatur went home to be with the Lord on Friday May 10. She was born and raised in Meigs county and graduated from TN Wesleyan College where she studied to become a teacher. She taught school in many states as well as oversees in England. She was affectionately know by her students as Ms. Iva. She was a Delta Kappa Gamma member. Iva was a member of 1st Baptist Church of Decatur where she taught a Sunday school class and was an avid prayer warrior. She was a good mother, a devoted loving wife and grandmother and loved wearing hats.

She was preceded in death by her parents Luther Crisp and Glennie Swafford Crisp; her husband Charles D. Shields; sisters Willie Farmer and Jan Crisp; brothers Lester and Eddie Crisp.

Survivors include two sons Carlos Shields and his wife Holly, of Bentonville, Ark. And Justin Shields, of Decatur; brother Al Crisp, of the Atlanta area, Ga: sister Polly Perkins, of Decatur; two grandchildren, Kate and Gryson Shields.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 12pm at the First Baptist Church of Decatur with Pastor Jamey Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, May 17 from 6-8PM at the funeral home.
