Hugh Victor Davis, Jr.

Hugh Victor Davis, Jr., age 69, of Bristol, TN/VA, passed away on March 13, 2024 after a short but valiant battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife Debrah Freda Davis and daughters Carolyn Davis Moore and Jessica Davis Whitney at the time of his passing.

Hugh was born August 18, 1954 in Fort Walton Beach, FL. He was a 1972 graduate of John Battle High School, Bristol, VA and a 1976 graduate of East Tennessee State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. Following in his father’s footsteps, he went to work for Allstate Insurance Company straight out of college, serving most notably on their National Catastrophe Team, where he dedicated his 45 year career to helping people in their most vulnerable times of need, until he retired in 2022. Hugh was an avid dog lover, fisherman, grill-master, marksman, and loved all things outdoors. His favorite roles were Dad to his daughters and Papaw to his grandchildren. He was extremely witty and talked to anyone with an ear, never failing to make everyone laugh.

Hugh was preceded in death by his mother: Carol Hutsell Davis, grandparents: Bonnie and Fred Hutsell and Maude and Jess Davis.

Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 40 years: Debrah Freda Davis; two daughters: Carolyn (Matt) Davis Moore of Bossier City, LA, Jessica (Rich) Davis Whitney of Gambrills, MD; three grandchildren: Ava, Maddie, Davis, and one on the way; his father: Hugh Victor Davis, Sr. of Franklin, TN; mother-in-law: Jacqueline Toporoff; three sisters: Joy Davis (Fred) Kimbrell, Kim Davis (Mike) Stollenmaier, and Bonnie Davis (Wayne) Guy; a close-knit group of cousins, uncles, nieces, nephews; and a legion of friends.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, March 22, 2024, in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Con Sauls and Minister Daryl Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Pisgah Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Anderson Hutsell, Bryan Bismark, Ron Jarvis, Sammy Norton, Matt Moore, Rich Whitney, Barry Hutsell, and Adam Jarvis.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Fred Kimbrell, Mike Stollenmaier, Wayne Guy, Raymond Freda, and Larry Bays. A reception will be held at Pisgah Baptist Church afterwards.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. – 12 noon, prior to the service.
