Helen Ruth Duckworth

Helen Ruth Duckworth, 96, of Decatur passed away peacefully June 3, 2018 at Greenfield Senior Living Center in Oak Ridge. She was born in Spring City, TN and was the oldest of eight children of Walter Alley, Sr. and Viola Alley. She was a longtime annual volunteer with the Meigs County Fair and a nursery school teacher at Oak Ridge Nursery School. She was also a dietician for Berry College in Rome, GA during WWII. This is where she met her future husband, Hardin Duckworth.

Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking family meals, playing Scrabble, and sewing for her daughters and others. She was a member of the Big Spring Church of Christ in Decatur and a past member of New York Ave. Church of Christ in Oak Ridge.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Alley, Sr. and Viola Alley; her husband of over 60 years, William Hardin Duckworth; and four siblings, Chester Alley, Aileen Porter, Gene Alley and Ada Fry.

Survivors include her daughters, Sue Humble (Randy) of Knoxville and Ann Adams (Ray) of Vandalia, OH; a sister, Lucille Davison of Georgia and two brothers, Walter Alley, Jr. and Charles Alley, both of Chattanooga.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 3pm with Chaplain Frank Dawson officiating. Burial will follow in Beta Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1pm to 3pm.

The family wishes to thank the second floor staff at Greenfield Senior Living for their loving care as her health declined. Helen called them her "sweethearts". The nurses, chaplain and volunteers from Caris of Knoxville also were a great support to the family.
