Hazel McKinney Millaway, 87, of Georgetown, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at Etowah Health Care Center, where she was lovingly cared for by the nurses, staff, and Dr Samuel Olsen II. She was a member of Georgetown Baptist Church and formerly a member of Brittsville Baptist Church. Born May 16, 1923, she was a lifelong resident of Meigs County. She worked for a short time outside the home at American Uniform, but her most cherished roles were that of wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was an accomplished seamstress, fashioning clothes for herself and for many members of her family. She was a skilled quilter, designing quilts for herself and others. She excelled at needlework, including delicately designed embroidery pieces, afghans, and crewel. She enjoyed many other crafts, as well, during her participation in the Brittsville Home Demonstration Club. She and her late husband, who died Feb. 2, 20011, enjoyed traveling, particularly to the Smokey Mountain National Park and Blue Ridge area, where they photographed wildlife, vintage barns, and pastoral landscapes used in many of her paintings. She especially enjoyed depicting still life scenes using water colors and soft pastels. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Walter McKinney Sr. and Emma McDowell McKinney; husband of 68 years, Doc Lee Millaway Jr.; two brothers James McKinney and and infant sibling. Survivors include one son, Doc Lee Millaway III and his wife Barbara of Decatur, TN; one granddaughter, Cheryl M. Baxter and husband Jim of Knoxville, TN; two great- grandsons, Adam Jamison and Davis Andrew Baxter, both of Knoxville, TN; one brother, Dewey Walter "Bud" McKinney Jr., of Goshen, Oregon; one sister, Barbara Paulus, of Laughlin, Nevada; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2011 in the Bowers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnston Cemetery, Georgetown, TN. The family will receive friends from 8:30a.m.-11 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the funeral home.
