Hazel Creasman Hennessee, 86, of Decatur, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 19th, 2016 while at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.
She was born on April 5th, 1930 to the late Reverend Earl and Edith Creasman. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Billy Lewis Hennessee; a son, Jackie Lewis Hennessee; granddaughter, Kimberly Hennessee Moses; and sister Patsy Creasman Hayes.
Hazel was a lifelong member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and always had a true passion for music and gospel singing. She was always noted in the gospel singing arenas as the best alto singer around with a quality God-given talent. Hazel sang with the Decatur Quartet for many years and traveled to many churches and conventions as well as singing at many funerals on request. She also owned and operated the Beauty Box in downtown Decatur for many years which she greatly enjoyed. After she retired as a hair dresser, she pursued a music degree and graduated from Cleveland State. She also taught piano lessons for a few years from her home to area young people, who loved her dearly. Hazel's family has always been a priority to her and she spent every
Sunday preparing meals for the famous Sunday dinner at Granny Hazel's house, to bring everyone together.
Those left to cherish her memories are her two son, Jerry Hennessee of Athens, Ron (Judi) Hennessee of Decatur, five grandchildren, Chad (Tonya) Hennessee of Dayton, Laura (John) Smith of Dalton, Chris (Rachel) Hennessee of Nashville, Adam (Christy) Hennessee of Dayton, Jeff Hennessee of Cookeville; nine great grandchildren, Taylor and Madison Smith, Matthew Moses, Cason and Zacary Hennessee, Anna Kate and Luke Hennessee, Hayes and Gus Hennessee; two brothers, Donald (Tiny) and Herman (Ruth) Creasman both of Decatur; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends and other extended family also survive.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm, on Thursday April 21st at the Bowers Funeral Home in Decatur. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 22nd at 2 pm in the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor Rod Dunn officiating.
Interment will immediately follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family members.
