Hannah Ruth Moss Farmer Whaley

Hannah Ruth Moss Farmer Whaley, 98, of Decatur went to be with the Lord on September 8, 2018 in Athens, TN. She was born June 25, 1920 in Norwood, Ohio. Mrs. Whaley was the oldest of four children of the late Fleming Arthur and Lela Woolrich Moss. She lived in McMinn and Meigs Counties in Tennessee for most of her life. She attended Hillsview High School and graduated from Meigs County High School in Decatur, TN.

Mrs. Whaley and her first husband, Cecil Farmer, both worked in the office of the Meigs County Court Clerk. She also worked alongside both of her minister husbands as they faithfully served the Lord in several churches in Meigs, McMinn and Bradley counties. Through the years and even after the deaths of both her husbands, she attended and was a member of several of the Baptist Churches in both McMinn and Meigs Counties.

Mrs. Whaley was preceded in death by her two husbands, Rev. Cecil E. Farmer in 1974 and Rev. Clyde Whaley in 1992; her parents, Fleming Arthur and Lela Woolrich Moss; two sisters, Neena Mae Moss Jones and Edna Jewell Moss Crisp; a brother, George Orville Moss; and her son-in-law, Carl C. Hughes.

Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Ann Farmer Hughes of North Carolina and Cecileia Ruth Farmer Shultz (Wade) of Tennessee; a son, Daniel C Farmer (Sarah) of Tennessee; five grandsons, Daniel Raymond Farmer, Scott Cecil Farmer, Patrick Wade Shultz, Joshua Wesley Cecil Shultz, and Russell Matthew Shultz; eight great grandchildren, Kelly Shultz, Garrison Shultz, Alex Farmer, Andrew Farmer, Hannah-Catherine Farmer, Daniel Shultz, Emma Grace Shultz and James Caleb Shultz.

The family will receive friends at Bowers Funeral Home on Friday, September 14, 2018 from 5pm to 7pm. Mrs. Whaley will lay in repose at Short Creek Baptist Church in Athens on Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 1pm to 2pm. Funeral services will begin at 2pm at the church with Rev. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Short Creek Cemetery. Mrs. Whaley's grandsons and nephews will serve as pall bearers.
