Goldman Dillard Smith

G.D. Smith, 89, of Decatur, passed away at his home on December 31, 2017. He was born in Coker Creek, TN and had been a resident of Decatur since 1958 coming from Cottonport. He was a Baptist by faith and a member of Cottonport Baptist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #213 in Decatur and enjoyed working in his vegetable garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Cynthia Smith, six brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Selvia of Decatur; three sons, Danny (Debbie) Smith of Decatur, Rusty (Stephanie) Smith of Decatur, and Jeff Smith of Knoxville; four daughters, Darlene (David) Collins of Decatur, Sandra (Joe) Fritts of Decatur, Gail Bobby) Cass of Englewood, and Edna Sewell of Athens; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Bowers Funeral Home in Decatur on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 5pm to 7pm. Funeral services will be at Cottonport Baptist Church on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 1pm with Rev. Mike Rymer and Rev. Max Redman officiating. Interment will follow in Cottonport Cemetery.
