Gladys Lee Davis

Surrounded by her family at home Gladys Lee Davis, 87, left this earth to join her husband, Sam, in their heavenly home on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011. Gladys is the daughter of the late Robert C. and Elsie Ledford Armstrong and she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam H. Davis, Jr., sisters Margaret Addison, Jo Martin and Agnes Walden. She is survived by her son, Larry H. Davis of Decatur; daughters, Teresa (Charlie) Beasley of Signal Mountain and Judi (Ron) Hennessee of Decatur; grandchildren Larry "Skip" Davis, Jr. of Crossville, Charles "Chuck" (Kristin) Beasley of Athens, Brian Beasley of Lakeland, FL., Ruth Ann (Hayne) Steen of Signal Mtn., Chad (Tonya) Hennessee of Dayton, Adam (Christy) Hennessee of Dayton and great-grandchildren Garrett and Taylor Davis, Brett Beasley, Sam and Sarah Davis Steen, Cason and Zacary Hennessee and Anna Kate Hennessee; beloved sisters Mildred Carpenter, Ann Small and Bobbie (Kenny) Dickson, baby brother Kendall (Doris) Armstrong; her precious sisters-in-law Mildred Ray, Veda (Fred) Miller, special brother-in-law Kenneth (Corrine) Davis and many nieces and nephews. Gladys, along with her husband, was a faithful and devoted member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church since 1940 and was the oldest surviving member of the church. She was a woman of great faith and passed her love for Christ along to her children by her steadfast dedication to her family. She maintained several jobs throughout her life and of historical significance was her role as one of the "Government Girls" in the Secret City, now Oak Ridge, Tennessee, during World War II while her husband was serving his country. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19th,at the Bowers Funeral Home in Decatur followed by a celebration of her life in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be immediately following the service at Walnut Grove Baptist Church. Hayne Steen will conduct the service. The pallbearers will be the grandsons and great-grandsons., The family is grateful for the loving care given by Hospice of Chattanooga.
