Rev. Gilbert E. (G.E.) Sitzlar, age 85, of Decatur and formerly of Ten Mile, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the Life Care Center of Athens.
G. E. was a son of the late William and Lula Addcox Sitzlar. He was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church in Ten Mile were he had served as pastor for 14 years. He was preceded in death by a son: Carlos Randall Sitzlar, great-granddaughter: Angel Faith Thurman, grandson: Chris Hillard and brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years Betty Lones Sitzlar of Decatur; sons: Walter Sitzlar (Jodie) of Athens, Gilbert Sirzlar, Jr. (Robyn) of Dayton, daughters: Debbie Walden (Eddie) of Decatur, Darlene Hillard (Gary) of Philadelphia, TN, Diana Kelley (Mike) of Niota, grandchildren: Zachary Sitzlar, Savanna Sitzlar, Johnny Daniel, Dana Sitzlar, Jaylen Sitzlar, Lillian Sitzlar, Heather Walden, Eddie Walden Jr, Matthew Jarvis, Melissa Fulbright, Jennifer Thurman, Kelley Wood, Blair Palko, Justus Palko, Steffen Palko, Laura Kelley, Leah Brown and 13 great-grandchildren. There is several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 in the Chapel of Bowers Funeral Home with the Rev. Zachary Sitzlar and Rev. Curtis Walden and Rev. Gary Rolen officiating.
Interment will be Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., Edgmon Cemetery in Ten Mile with Matt Jarvis, Johnny Daniel, Mike Walden, Gary Fulbright, Brian Garrison, Jason Thurman, E. J. Walden, and Ruel Ayers serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Bowers Funeral Home.
