Garnet Ford Hackler Cofer, age 93, of Decatur, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
Garnet was a member of Savannah Methodist Church in Ooltewah, Tn and a past member of Decatur First Baptist Church.
Garnet graduated from Meigs County High School in 1950. She received her LPN nursing degree in 1960. She worked in several hospitals and nursing homes in TN and FL. She was a very special nurse, and her patients loved her and her caring manner. Later, she owned and operated "Home for the Aged" in Decatur, TN. She enjoyed caring for the elderly. For the last 10 years of her mother's life, she lovingly cared for her.
She lived in five different states and traveled to several countries. But her roots were in Meigs County and she was so happy to live out her life in Ten Mile next door to her daughter. Precious memories were made. She loved playing cards, sewing, cross stitching and gardening. Her biggest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a wonderful, kind, loving, caring and generous Mother who had a heart of gold. She will be sadly missed and loved always and forever.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Luther and Estella Ford; brothers: Earl Ford, Robert Ford, and Kenneth Ford; sisters: Mary Edna Ford, Helen Butcher and Muriel Balance; husbands: Hugh Hackler, the father of her 3 children, and Neil Cofer.
She is survived by her children: Stanley Hackler (Kate), Sheila Hackler Graves (Darrell), Hugh Hackler, Jr. (Susan). Her children were honored to be her caregivers. Sheila and Darrell for the last eight years. Stan and Kate were always ready to help with any need. Hugh, with Susan's support, gave her dedicated and unwavering healthcare for the last six months of her life.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Travis Ferguson, Holly Hackler, Nicholas Hackler, Darrell Graves |I (Keeley), Brandon Graves (Heather), Hugh Hackler III, Brittany Hackler; great grandchildren: Olivia Ferguson, Tyler Truscott, Jacob Hackler, Eric Hackler, Ava Graves, Sylvie Graves, Olivia Graves and Collin Graves; Her very special sister who was always there for her: Kay Waters; several nieces and nephews she dearly loved.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025 in the Sewee Church of God Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Tallent officiating.
