Garland Frazier Carpenter

Garland Frazier Carpenter, age 83, of Decatur, TN went to home be with the Lord Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at Sky Ridge Medical Center, Cleveland, TN. . He was a member of the Decatur First Baptist Church for over 60 years and served as Deacon. He also served as mayor and alderman of Decatur. He was a steamfitter and worked for T.V.A. for 36 years. He was a Veteran of World War II and served in the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of Meigs Masonic Lodge #213 and served as secretary for over 40 years. A life-long native of Meigs County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Consider and Edna Inman Carpenter; a sister Peggy Carpenter Hutsell; and an infant daughter Edna Ruth Carpenter. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Edna Ruth West Carpenter of Decatur, TN; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Roger G. and Judy J. Carpenter, R. Wayne and Sylvia (Sybil) A. Carpenter; Steven F. and Jackie C. Carpenter all of Decatur; one brother and sister-in-law, James Clyde and Margie Carpenter of Chattanooga; one sister and brother-in-law, Martin and Phyllis Ward of Hixson; one uncle Mack Inman of Lake City Florida; grandchildren Kelley Carpenter, Keith and wife Bethany Carpenter, Kevin Carpenter, Amber and husband Chris Stanfield, Angie and husband Zac Brown; great grandchildren Ivy and Eden Stanfield; Funeral service will be 8:30 p.m., on Friday November 26, 2010 in the Bowers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy McCarty officiating. Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 27, 2010 in the Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m., Friday, November 26, 2010 at the funeral home, with a Masonic Service at 8:00 p.m.. In lieu of flowers family suggests memorial contributions may be made to Decatur First Baptist Church Building Fund or Meigs Masonic Lodge #213. Pallbearers will be Keith Carpenter, Kevin Carpenter, Jim Carpenter, Chris Stanfield, Zac Brown, and Marty Ward. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons and the Adult Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.
