Obituary

Raymond Moon, age 83, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Raymond was the son of the late Robert and Cora Bess Moon. He proudly served in the United States Navy, demonstrating a commitment to his country that spanned his lifetime.

A devoted member of First Baptist Church in Decatur, Raymond embraced his faith and actively served his church community. He was also a proud 58-year member of Meigs Lodge #213 F.&A.M., where he fostered bonds of brotherhood and service.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Moon.

He is survived by his wife 59 years, Helen Moon; children, Travis (Dawn) Moon, David (Heidi) Moon; grandchildren, Jacob Moon, Colten (Rachel) Moon, Sarah Moon, Jordan (Coleman) Rumney, Faith Ann (Zach) Roebuck, Alissa Rozier, Halle Rozier; great-grandchild, Maeve Ann Roebuck; siblings, Billy (Anna Lee) Moon, Paula (Charles) Thompson; four-legged companion, Biscuit; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m., on Friday, August 28, 2026 in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Jordan Metzger officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., prior to the service.

Interment will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, August 29, 2026, in the Bethsadia Cemetery. Jacob Moon, Colten Moon, Jeff Franklin, Russell Davis, Bo Coleman, and Tracy Harmon will be serving as pallbearers.
