Dorothy B. Gallaher

January 15, 1918 — June 2, 2012

Dorothy B. Gallaher, 94, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 2, 2012 in the Athens Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of William Pressly Blanchard and Lavenia Holland of Dothan, AL. She moved to Decatur with her husband in 1949. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond F. Gallaher and her mother and father, her sister, Frances Fletcher and her brother, William M. Blanchard. She was employed with the Meigs County Board of Education for 22 years until her retirement in 1988. She served as education chairman for the American Cancer Society for ten years. She helped organize the Decatur Garden Club in 1950. She was area correspondent for the Knoxville News Sentinel and Chattanooga Times for many years. She has been an active member of the Decatur United Methodist Church since 1950. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and was a member of the Decatur United Methodist Women. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Franklin and Sue Gallaher of Decatur; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Frances and Danny Bridges of Decatur; two granddaughters, Melissa Bassham (Cecil) and Allison Bridges of Decatur, three grandsons, Tommy Gallaher (Christy) of Clarkrange, Billy Gallaher (Tina) of Decatur, Heath Bridges (Autumn) of Cartersville, GA, one great-grandson, Dakota Bassham of Decatur, five great-granddaughters, Ceily Bassham of Decatur, Brooklyn and Ashley Gallaher of Clarkrange, Brie Gallaher of Decatur and Annie Kay Bridges of Cartersville, GA and many nephews and nieces. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 in the Decatur United Methodist Church with Rev. Hugh Bryan officiating. Interment will be held at Decatur Cemetery following the funeral. Visitation will be from 5-8p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Bowers Funeral Home.
