Dorothy “Dot” Woodby Gallaher, age 94, formerly of Decatur, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2021. Dot was one of two children and was born to the late John Woodby and the late Viola Matherly Woodby on August 25, 1927. A native of Johnson City, Tennessee. Dot was a graduate of Science Hill High School. On July 1, 1949, she married Robert “Bob” Taft Gallaher in Chatsworth, Georgia. Sometime later, they built their home in Decatur, Tennessee where they lived for several years. Bob, who had worked in the Engineering Section of Tennessee Valley Authority, left TVA and accepted employment with Southern Railway Company. The couple transferred to Atlanta, Georgia and purchased a home in Smyrna, Georgia. By this time, their family had grown to include their two children: Bobby and John. Bob passed on October 31, 1973 and was buried in the Decatur, TN Cemetery. Dot was a quiet individual who had a unique sense of humor. She found joy in making flower arrangements and would fill the Gallaher home with her pieces. Her passion led her to enter events including the annual North Georgia State Fair where she won many awards. More than anything, Dot loved her family. Dot is preceded by her husband of 24 years, Robert “Bob” Taff Gallaher Sr., and her grandson, Matthew “Matt” Gallaher. Her memory will be cherished by her sons, Robert “Bobby” Taff Gallaher Jr. (Lisa), and John “Johnny” Gallaher (Leslie); grandchildren, Sarah Cosgrove (Steve), Caroline Cutcliffe (Wes) and Ashley Bright (Eric); great-grandchildren, Riley, Kaylee, Hope, Grady, Silas, Teddy, Mason, John Thomas and Walt; and many cousins and extended family members. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at Decatur Cemetery, Abel Avenue, Decatur, TN 37322 with a burial to follow.
