Doc Lee Millaway, Jr., 90, of Georgetown, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at Etowah Health Care, where he was lovingly cared for by the nurses, staff, and Dr. Samuel Olsen. Born February 3, 1920, he was a lifelong resident of Meigs County. He was a private first class in the 7th infantry in the U.S. Army, serving in the Rome-Arno and Rhineland Campaigns in World War II. He received a Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle East Service Medal, and a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters for multiple wounds he received. For a short time, he worked at Union Carbide K-25 in Oak Ridge. Later, he was a hand welder in the boiler shop of Combustion Engineers, where he retired after 28 years. He also farmed for many years. He was a Member and Deacon Emeritus of Georgetown Baptist Church and formerly a member of Brittsville Baptist Church. He had a strong love of music, particularly Church hymns. He was preceded in death by his parents, Millie Melton Millaway and Doc Lee Millaway Sr.; four brothers, Chester,Thomas, and infant twins; two sisters, Beulah Cofer and Ollie Miller. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Hazel McKinney Millaway; son, Doc L. Millaway II and wife Barbara of Decatur, TN; granddaughter, Cheryl M. Baxter and husband Jim of Knoxville, TN; great grandsons, Adam Jamison and Davis Andrew Baxter of Knoxville, TN; sister Myra Millaway of Charleston, TN; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 6, 2011 in the Bowers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Campbell officiating. Interment will be in the Johnston Cemetery, Georgetown, TN. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Sunday, February 6, 2011 at the funeral home. Box 1255, Decatur, TN 37322; Georgetown Baptist Church Building Fund or Brittsville Baptist Church Building Fund
