Dan Layman, age 84, of Decatur, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 18, 2022, with his family by his side. Dan was a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church and retired from DuPont with 36 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Dan enjoyed farming, singing in the church choir, turkey hunting, watching his hummingbirds, and spending time with his family, friends, and neighbors. He especially looked forward to Sundays when his family gathered each week and made his favorite meals and desserts. He was a fan of UT and Meigs County sports teams and enjoyed watching his granddaughters play basketball. He was the kindest, most gentle, loving, and patient husband, father, and friend. Everyone who met Dan saw how special of a person he was and fell in love with him including his doctors, nurses, and staff. He will be greatly missed by all. Dan was preceded in death by his son: Dan Layman Jr., parents: Ted and Bessie Marie Layman, brothers: Don, Harold, Ted Jr., Ed and Johnnie Layman, infant twin sister: Ann Layman, and infant triplet brothers: Marvice, Murrill, and Marion Layman. Survivors include his wife of 61 years: Carolyn Denton Layman, daughters: Melissa (Mark) Wilson, Regina (Jason) Kirk, son: Jason (Tabitha) Layman, grandchildren: Derrick, Darren, Dixie, Jacy and Elin Layman, Tristan, Noah and Madison Fischer, great-grand children: Gabriel, Elizabeth, Michael and Sarah Layman, Brentley and Baylor McNabb, and his four-legged farm helper and companion: B.B.. Dan also leaves behind many special nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, friends, neighbors, hunting buddies, and church family. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Rev. Hugh Bryan officiating. Interment will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 11 a.m. in the Decatur Cemetery. Pallbearers will include his special friends: Ronnie Templeton, Steve Withers, Barry Lassiter, and turkey hunting buddies he thought of as family: Russ Arthur, Tommy Eldridge, and Donnie Rush. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, prior to the service. Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services is honored to serve the Layman Family.
