Conley Carson Culbert

Conley Carson Culbert, age 90, of Athens, TN, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2024.

Conley was born and raised in Elizabethton, TN. In 1953, Conley married Frankie "Sue" Culbert, as well as began work as a tool and die maker for General Motors in Cleveland, OH. He attended Finn College with an apprenticeship program through General Motors. He was a member of the United Auto Workers (UAW) Union and a great creative asset to the GM company for 30 years before retiring in 1983. A highly intelligent man, he inspired his co-workers, children, and grandchildren. He loved dancing, golf, and taking long scenic drives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Norma Bradley Culbert of Elizabethton, TN; his sister, Barbara Culbert Campbell of Elizabethton, TN; mother of his children, Frankie "Sue" Culbert of Decatur, TN; and nephew, Terry Campbell of Elizabethton, TN.

Survivors include brothers; Bobby (Orpha) Culbert of Twinsburg, OH and Kenneth Culbert of Elizabethton, TN; his brother-in-law, Clyde Hayes; his children, Dennis Culbert of Mogadore, OH and Cynthia Wilson (LB Bell) of Athens, TN; his grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law, Denny and Katie Culbert of Lafayette, LA and Matthew Culbert of Fairborn, OH; three granddaughters and one grandson-in-law, Myranda and Jerry Shelton of Decatur, TN, Michaela McHone (Travis Brown) of Decatur, TN, and Alexis Culbert of Mogadore, OH; four great-granddaughters, Saleen Bell, Nellie Shelton, Eleanor Shelton, and Kitt Culbert; two great-grandsons, Sherman "SJ" Buckner and Ezra Buckner; and many special nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Larry “LB” Bell for his friendship and exceptional care of Conley during his last days.

A private funeral service was held on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Rev. Jerry Shelton officiating. Interment followed in the Clear Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Athens, TN.
