Charles Henson Smith

August 10, 1937 — March 23, 2011

Charles Henson Smith, age 73, of Dayton, TN went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Rhea Medical Center. He was a Baptist and attended New Union Baptist Church. He was the owner and operator of The Old Washington Ferry for 55 years. He helped build the Rhea County Football Stadium. He was preceded in death by his parents, C.D. Smith and Edna (Gideon) Smith; two brothers, Clyde Gideon, and Dwight McSmith. . He is survived by his wife Joyce (Colbaugh) Smith; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Dean and Tammy Smith, Darryl Smith, and Cody Smith all of Dayton, TN; two grandchildren, Justin Smith and Monica and Doug Backus; one brother, Duane McSmith, of Elizabeth City, NC; one sister, Phyllis and Albert Thurman of Dayton, TN; three nephews, Dean and Sharon McSmith, Blake Gideon, and Gary and Mindy McSmith; two nieces, Suzann and Lydia. There will be a Memorial Service held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 27, 2011 in the Bowers Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rusty Revis officiating.
