Charles Burgess

Charles R. Burgess, age 83, a resident of Decatur, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 6, 2016 at the Starr Regional Medical Center, Athens, TN. Mr. Burgess was a son of the late Charles "Gib" and Geneva Kennedy Burgess and was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jearl Dean Burgess. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Army and was a member of the Bethsaida Baptist Church.

He is survived by his one son, Terry M. Burgess of Decatur, one daughter, Pamela Bates of Decatur, a brother, Max W. Burgess of Athens, two sisters, Betty Faye Burgess of Chattanooga, TN and Frances Mattson of Harrison TN. Three grandchildren: Nicholas Trueblood, Charles Bates, and James Bates and several nieces and nephews and host of good friends also survive.

A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Shiloh Cemetery in Decatur with the Rev. Larry Sorah officiating.

Pallbearers: Nicholas Trueblood, Charles Bates, James Bates, Shaun Burgess, Jason Burgess, Jack Gregory.

In lieu of flowers family request donations to be made to St. Judes Childrens hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:30 pm, Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Bowers Funeral Home.
