Carrie Ruth Scott

July 19, 1927 — July 20, 2020

Carrie Ruth Scott, age 93, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away Monday morning, July 20, 2020. She was surrounded by family. She was a dearly loved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Ruth’s single passion in life was to love and care for her family. Her first thought was always on behalf of her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. One never went hungry when you visited Ruth’s home and you could bank on a good hospitable fuss being made over you. She lived a full life, experienced many extreme joys and yet was no stranger to tragedy. A native of Meigs County and country girl at heart, she loved fireflies in the fields and was never more at home than on a snowy day in the mountains. She leaves a legacy of love and sacrifice that will forever be imprinted on her family.

She is survived in this life by Clyde Thomas, her husband of 75 years, two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill (Nancy) Scott and Mike (Elaine) Scott, two granddaughters Debbie Smith and Martha Scott, and three great-grandchildren, Tucker Smith, Kendall Smith, and Jordan Powers. She leaves a legacy of nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless lives she touched. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, William H. and Callie Johnson, and sister Jean Sweat.

The family will celebrate Ruth’s life in a private graveside service at Decatur Cemetery on Friday, July 24, 2020. In lieu of flowers, the Scott family requests that donations be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association.

Bowers Funeral Home is honored to serve the Scott family.
