Billie Hicks, age 91, of Athens, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. He enjoyed shooting and riding horses. He was a member of the American Legion #68, American Quarter Horse Association, and a lifetime member of the NRA. He retired from the United States Army with 26 years of service. He is preceded in death by his parents: Harry and Violet Watson Hicks; sister: Betty Hickman. He is survived by his wife of 69 years: Laura Graham Hicks; children: Cheryl Haywood (Randy Parson); Dennis Hicks; grandchildren: Joshua Haywood, Christopher Haywood, Jessie Hicks, Jarrad Hicks; great grandchildren: Savannah Haywood, Chloe Schoellman, Emma Crawford, Madalynn Haywood, Cash Haywood, Charley Haywood; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025, in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Rev. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Short Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 noon – 2 p.m., prior to the service. Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services is honored to serve the Hicks Family.
