Betty Brogden

Betty (Thurman) Brogden, 78, of Decatur, TN went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the Brooke Wood Nursing Center with her family by her side. She was a faithful member of Union Grove Baptist Church for many years. Her love for the Lorfd and her amazing ability to sing allowed her to minister to many through her songs. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was loved by all who knew her. She retired from Shaw Industries. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lon and Dolly (Howard) Thurman; her husband of 29 years, Luther Lee Brogden, Jr.; 3 brothers, Lige, Robert and Wesley Thurman; 3 sisters, Ossie Thurman, Irene Bates and Jannie Wilson. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Renee Brogden of Calhoun, TN; two brothers and sister-in-laws, J.W. and Joey Thurman, William and Lois Thurman, all of Athens, TN; two grandchildren and spouses, Toby and Johnna Brogden and Tabatha and Jody McCammon; one step grandchild, Gary Redman; four great grandchildren, Asher Brogden, Jonathan, Patrick and Destiny McCammon; and a very special friend Mary (Mutt) Vaughn. Funeral service will be 8:00 p.m., on Friday October 8, 2010 in the Bowers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Lewis and Rev. Toby Brogden officiating Interment will at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 9, 2010 in the Short Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m., Friday, October 8, 2010 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be: Toby Brogden, Randy Liner, Troy Crowder, Joe Haney, Leon Crain, Jimmy Hawkins. Honorary Pallbearers, Deacons of Union Grove Baptist Church, J. W. Thurman, Jr. Brown, and Harold Torbett.
