Alvin Ray "Ray Ray" Atwood

A precious handsome Little Ray of Sunshine, Alvin Ray Atwood, known to all who loved him as "Ray Ray", the beloved son of Alvin and Maria Atwood of Benton, age 10, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Children's Hospital at Erlanger, After battling 6 years with his diagnosis of NF1-Neurofibromatosis, causing brain tumors, with his best friend "Blue Bear" by his side. He passed peacefully in his sleep into the arms of Jesus, where he was awakened in paradise, a place so beautiful and real, he had always talked about where he would cuddle the cute cuddly bears & watch the sea turtles swim. Ray Ray was associated with the Benton Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for the past few years, he was a student at Benton Elementary, where he was promoted to 4th grade. February 2, 2019, Ray Ray became an honorary member of Meigs County Fire Department as badge #1104, his number has been retired and will never be resigned to anyone. June 22, 2021, Ray Ray got to ring the victory bell after completing radiation as graduate #3674. Ray Ray took great pride in caring for his animals Baby Professor, Chomper, Jimmy, Tiger, Killer, Pebbles, Jack, and Shelly. Aside from his animals, Ray Ray enjoyed his families trips to the mountains where they had cookouts and swam, talking about being a firefighter, weekly bible study with his extend family, fishing, and spinning tires with his uncle Greg, whom he nicknamed "Old Man", as well as trying to get him in trouble by his Aunt Cheyenne, Summer trips to his Mamaw Joyce and Aunt Becka, playing outside/on his tablet, coloring/drawing, watching his favorite shows, Jake & The Neverland Pirates and Bluey, with his sisters, making people laugh, giving out hugs. You never caught him without a smile on his face, and his favorites most of all was singing worships/his favorite song with his mommy, and picking on/making jokes on his daddy, whom he nicknamed "fat daddy". Ray Ray was preceded in death by his papaw: Alvin Ray Atwood, in whom he was named after, and his great uncle: Benny Ray Locke. In addition to his parents: Alvin and Maria Atwood, to carry out his cherished memories are his loving beautiful sisters: Abigale and Selena Atwood, of Benton, Mamaw: Joyce Atwood, of Knoxville, Gran-Gran: Kerstin (Ricky) Morgan of Meigs County, Aunt: Becka (Teddy) Goddard, cousins: Kent, Joseph and Terry Wolfenbarger, of Knoxville, Aunt: Cheyenne (Greg) Sanders, cousins: Hannah, Hayden, and Alayna Sanders of Meigs County. The family would like to give a special thank you to Ray Ray's favorite Chemo/Craft nurses at Children's Hospital at Erlanger, Mrs. Rachel and Mrs. Ashley, thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for making his treatments always end with a smile, being in the best of spirits, and most of all loving our sweet boy as much as you did. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Interment will follow in McInturff Cemetery. Pallbearers will include his dad: Alvin Luther Atwood, cousins: Kent Wolfenbarger, Hayden Sanders, uncles: Teddy Goddard, Greg Sanders, and pastor: Darrell Belins. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. 2 p.m., prior to the service. Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services is honored to serve the Atwood Family.
