Alice Faye Edgemon Powell, age 80, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
She was a daughter of the late K.G. and Mable Rose Edgemon. She was born and raised in Ten Mile. She graduated from Meigs County High School, where she was a part of the first Girls basketball team to go to the state tournament in 1962. She was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Meigs County, where she taught Sunday School and played the piano. She was a claims representative for the Social Security office in Athens for many years. One of her greatest life joys was her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years: Johnny Powell, sisters: Jan Edgemon Buckner and Carolyn Barnett.
She is survived by her children: Jason (Wendi) Powell and Rachel (David) Moore, siblings: Butch Edgemon, Anna Jean Roberts, and Libby Gregory, grandchildren: Jaci Powell, Nate Powell, Mattie Moore, and Landon Moore; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2024, in the Chapel of Decatur Funeral Home & Cremation Services with the Rev. Barry Kidwell and the Rev. David Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Beta Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 – 3 p.m., prior to the service.
